Weekly Update

Hello there,

This week was quite a stressfull one, as I had to work overtime for 2 days in a row. So I would say this week took quite abit out of me.

Even though it was abit exhausting, the week went quite quick. I also took sometime inbetween working hours to find some interesting things for my sketchbook. I came accross something really interesting, Japanese architecture. The joinery details which the Japanese have mastered is quite intriguing. I came accross a simple canopy design, which was constructed of timber and found that there were no nails which held the structure together. A tongue-and-groove method was used, which stabilized the canopy. Hence, every component just fits into each other. I think that this is a very cost effective way of constructing timber of wooden structures in general, but requires skill to master and do properly. The thing that I love most about the world of architecture, is that you're constantly learning more and the opportunities for learning in this field are limitless.

This was a good week, and just goes to show that not everything you learn comes from the workplace, it comes from the will to find information by ones self.

Ciao- G
