Ghaarith Steyn: PSS

These are some of the floor plans done for the Papworth Hospital. The design for the Papworth hospital is done in the UK, and the UK based offices sends us a hand-drawn layout of the plans. We then draw it up again using CAD software. Many of the plans which are hand-drawn do not take certain elements into consideration, for example the structural columns which are consistent throughout the floors. We have to make sure that each room meets the required areas, which we are guided through the use of a Schedule of Accommodation, which has the required room areas and rooms to be added in the hospital for each floor. This Schedule of Accommodation is done by a Health Planner. When we are done drawing up the floor plans on CAD, making sure that all the required areas are met and that all the corridor spacing adhere to regulations and so forth, we then issue these drawings back to the UK for approval. They will give us feedback if any changes are to be made or not.

Joinery Details

These furniture details were modelled after existing fitted furniture, which was done on a previous Hospital in Nelspruit. This was a suggestion by Nightingale Associates; however the client, which is the department of Public Works, sent these drawings back with changes regarding material specifications and heights etc. All the changes were then made to meet the clients’ preferences.
